Punjab E-Taxi Scheme 2026: Latest Status & Eligibility Details

CM Punjab E-Taxi Scheme 2026

The CM Punjab E-Taxi Scheme provides electric taxis through interest-free financing to selected individuals and fleet operators. In its first phase, the Punjab Government approved 1,100 electric vehicles for Lahore, including 400 taxis for individuals and 700 for fleet owners.

As of July 2026, registration for the first phase is closed. Applications ended on October 5, 2025, and vehicle distribution began in February 2026. People who did not apply before the deadline cannot submit a new application unless the government announces another phase.

Punjab E-Taxi Scheme Status in July 2026

The first phase has moved beyond registration and balloting. Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif distributed keys to selected beneficiaries, including female drivers, at the scheme’s launch ceremony in February 2026. The government is now processing deliveries and checking whether subsidised vehicles are being used for public transport.

How the Interest-Free Financing Works

The scheme does not provide a free car. It offers a subsidised down payment and an interest-free loan through the Bank of Punjab. The applicant must still pay part of the vehicle price and clear the monthly instalments.

For an individual applicant, the required equity is 30% of the approved vehicle price. The Punjab Government contributes part of this equity:

  • For male applicants, the government pays 50% of the required equity.
  • For female applicants, the government pays 60% of the required equity.
  • The remaining 70% of the vehicle price is financed through an interest-free loan.

For example, the official FAQ uses a vehicle price of Rs.6.5 million. Its 30% equity comes to Rs.1.95 million. A male applicant would pay Rs.975,000 after the government’s contribution, while a female applicant would pay Rs.780,000. The remaining Rs.4.55 million would be financed.

Dividing a Rs.4.55 million loan over 60 months gives a basic principal payment of about Rs.75,833 per month. However, the final payable amount may include insurance or other approved charges. Applicants must follow the repayment schedule issued by the bank rather than calculations published on unofficial websites.

Support Available for Fleet Owners

The fleet category is meant for registered businesses and ride-hailing operators rather than a person seeking one taxi. A fleet owner must apply for at least 10 vehicles, while one individual can receive only one vehicle.

The government’s equity contribution for fleet operators depends on fleet size. For fleets of 10 to 50 taxis, it contributes 40% of the required equity. For fleets above 50 vehicles, the contribution is 30% of the equity. The applicant remains responsible for the balance and the loan repayments.

Fleet vehicles must be used for the approved e-taxi business. Personal use or operating outside the agreed conditions may lead to action under the financing and scheme rules.

Who Was Eligible to Apply?

The first-phase requirements were designed for people who could legally and financially operate an electric taxi. According to the scheme’s official FAQs, an individual had to be at least 21 years old when applying and no older than 60 when the loan reached maturity.

Applicants also needed to meet the following conditions:

  • Hold a valid driving licence
  • Have a valid CNIC
  • Meet the residence and operating-area requirements
  • Pass Bank of Punjab credit assessment
  • Have no unsatisfactory Electronic Credit Information Bureau record
  • Accept the vehicle’s commercial-use conditions
  • Submit correct information and supporting documents

A learner’s driving permit was not accepted. Selection through balloting also did not guarantee final approval because the bank had to verify the applicant’s identity, documents and repayment capacity.

Women’s Quota and Financial Support

The official portal lists 100 of the 400 individually allocated taxis for women. Female applicants also receive a larger government contribution toward the required equity: 60%, compared with 50% for male applicants.

The vehicles include safety and monitoring arrangements for commercial operation. Reports from the launch ceremony stated that the e-taxis have panic buttons linked with the Punjab Safe Cities Authority. The government is also supporting registration, fitness and token-tax costs under the scheme. Key distribution began in February 2026.

These measures lower the starting cost, but women selected under the scheme must still pay their share of the equity and monthly instalments.

Electric Taxi Models and Running Costs

Only electric cars approved and listed on the official scheme portal can be financed. Specifications, prices, battery sizes and delivery periods differ between models, so applicants should check the official e-taxi model list before accepting a vehicle or repayment schedule.

An electric taxi does not have “zero fuel cost.” It uses electricity instead of petrol, which means the driver must pay charging costs. The actual expense depends on the car’s battery size, electricity tariff, charging location, daily distance and driving style.

Drivers should also consider:

  • Insurance payments
  • Tyre replacement
  • Battery and vehicle warranty terms
  • Home-charger installation, where permitted
  • Public fast-charging rates
  • Routine inspection and maintenance
  • Time required to charge during working hours

Electric vehicles generally have fewer engine-related service items than petrol cars, but this does not make maintenance completely free.

  3. Enter the CNIC and password used during registration.
  4. Check the dashboard for verification, balloting, payment or delivery updates.
  5. Use the password-reset option if the account cannot be accessed.
  6. Call the Bank of Punjab scheme helpline at 042-111-333-267 if the status remains unclear.

Applicants should not share passwords, OTP codes or banking details with agents. The government has not authorised private individuals to guarantee selection, faster delivery or entry into a future phase.

What to Do If You Missed the Registration

People who missed the first deadline must wait for an official announcement. Creating an account or paying an agent cannot add a new applicant after the registration period has closed.

Keep a valid CNIC and driving licence ready, but do not pay an application fee until the official portal publishes a new notice. If another phase is introduced, its cities, quotas, vehicle prices and eligibility conditions may differ from the Lahore pilot project.
